Cylinder Sleeving

When your motor cylinders are worn out or damaged, your best option isn’t always to buy a new one to replace it. That may be too expensive, and at the same time you may not want to lose a terrific bit of porting. But sometimes the damage to the cylinder is too great so that a simple boring and honing repair just won’t do. If that’s the case, then we can put in a cylinder sleeve instead. In fact, the big plating companies go to us for our cylinder sleeving service when they’re unable to re-plate a cylinder.

Benefits of Our Cylinder Sleeve Installation

There are many good reasons why our cylinder sleeving service is preferable to getting a new one. And in many ways, the quality of our sleeving service is much higher than what you can get anywhere.

Here are some of the benefits you’ll receive when you come to us for cylinder sleeve installation:

  • We are a trusted company that’s been in the industry for more than 40 years. We’ have been sleeving small engine cylinders since 1969! We have the history and the reputation when it comes to repairing cylinders.

  • You save a lot of money when you come in for cylinder sleeving. Usually, the price of a brand new cylinder is double the cost of our sleeving services.

  • There are cases wherein the only way to rebuild the cylinder bore is to install a new cylinder sleeve.

  • We have the welding and machining skills and equipment so that the damaged areas of the cylinder can look, and more importantly, work—like new again.

  • We have the Slippery Slick Moly 2000 sleeve, which we can install on any Nikasil, Cast Iron, or Chrome Cylinder.

  • Our sleeves are very durable and they will last for a long time. That’s one of the reasons why we offer a 5-year warranty for our sleeving service. These sleeves won’t peel or flake, and they will run smoothly.

  • And yet even though these sleeves are made from hardened alloy steel, they’re boreable. That means you can use standard boring equipment to hone or bore them for any rebuilds in the future.

  • There’s another reason why we offer a 5-year warranty… We just know that we’re that good.

So what do you get with our sleeving services?

For the 2-stroke cylinder, here’s what we do:

  • Every port is hand-matched to guarantee that there won’t be any loss in performance.

  • We machine the head gasket surface so it’s smooth and level.

  • We bore and hone the cylinder sleeve to precision specs.

  • We chamfer the ports and hone the bore.

  • We relieve the exhaust bridge to prevent any over-expansion.

  • The rebuild often includes a Wiseco or ProX piston kit

For the 4-stroke:

  • We deck and surface the head gasket area.

  • We chamfer the bottom of the motorcycle sleeves so it’s easier to put in the piston and rings.

  • We then bone and hone the cylinder to precise specs.
